This preserve was created by the Town of Henniker as part of an agreement with a developer who deeded this 61-acre portion of the development to the town in order to protect it from future development. Today, the land is managed by the Town’s Conservation Commission for its natural, scenic, and recreational attributes.
This conservation land consists of a very scenic forest in a hidden valley traversed by a small watercourse, Chase Brook, a tributary of the Contoocook River. Under a conservation easement conveyed by the Town to Five Rivers Conservation Trust, the property’s current undeveloped status is more fully ensured. The property’s unique geology with its bedrock ledges create some special vegetation. Also, a variety of wildlife abound. A trail used for snowmobiling in the winter afforded an nice path for walkers as well. A trailhead sign is located on Flanders Road, near the junction of Craney Hill Road.
This is Five Rivers’ first conservation easement in Henniker, donated in 2008, and Five Rivers’ 2009 annual meeting was held in the town.
