Winter Walk in Concord
Winant Park – February 13, 10:30 a.m.

Grab your winter gear, bundle up the kids, and take the short drive to Winant Park in Concord on Saturday, February 13 for the second annual Five Rivers Winter Walk!

We’ll meet at 10:30 a.m. at the Parker Academy parking lot, at the corner of Pleasant Street (Rte. 202) and Fisk Road, across from St. Paul School. Bring snowshoes or boots. We will walk about a mile and a half over rolling terrain.

Ron Klemarczyk, forester for the City of Concord, and Mark Zankel, Five Rivers’ Board Chair, will lead us in exploring the ecology, wildlife, and history of this beautiful property. Following the walk, we'll gather at the nearby home of members Tom and Lauren Irwin for hot chocolate and conversation. Bring a friend!

2009 Annual Meeting of Five Rivers Conservation Trust

Saturday, May 30, 2009 • 9:30 AM – Noon
Henniker Community Center • 57 Main Street, Henniker, New Hampshire

You are cordially invited to attend the annual meeting of Five Rivers Conservation Trust.  The meeting will be in Henniker.   Five Rivers completed a special project in Henniker last year in collaboration with the town’s conservation commission.

After morning refreshments, we will hold our annual business meeting, including  the election of trustees and officers, as well as a photo review of Five Rivers’ 2008 land protection projects. 

We welcome  a special guest speaker, John Kanter, Nongame and Endangered Wildlife Program Coordinator of the New Hampshire Fish & Game Department.  John will give an illustrated talk on New Hampshire’s Wildlife Action Plan and how it plays a special role in land conservation efforts in communities across our state.

Following our meeting, attendees are invited to a ceremony for the Chase Brook property, a wonderful new landscape now permanently protected by the Town of Henniker and Five Rivers Conservation Trust.  Located in a forested valley, the property has a scenic public trail   Bring your comfortable footwear, and enjoy this new conservation area.

Blackmer Easement - March 7, 10:30 a.m.

Grab your winter gear, bundle up the kids and head for Canterbury on Saturday, March 7, for the first Five Rivers Winter Walk!

We’ll meet at 10:30 a.m. at the Blackmer Conservation Easement, 1/4 mile north of the Canterbury Country Store, at 41 Hackleboro Road. Bring snowshoes or boots. It’s a nice walk of about a mile and a half over rolling terrain.

Five Rivers members Molly and Dan Sperduto will be our guides for the morning -- looking for animal tracks and learning about the winter ecology and wildlife of this beautiful property.

Following the walk, we’ll gather at the nearby home of members Tabitha and Rob Riley for hot chocolate and conversation. Bring a friend!

Please join us at the 2008 Annual Meeting
of Five Rivers Conservation Trust

You are cordially invited to attend the annual meeting of Five Rivers Conservation Trust, marking the Trust’s twentieth year!  The meeting will be in the town of Gilmanton, a community that witnessed a number of special Five Rivers conservation projects over the past year.

After morning refreshments, an annual business meeting will be held.  This will include the election of trustees and officers, as well as an illustrated review of Five Rivers’ remarkable 2007 land protection projects. 

We will then be treated to a presentation by a special guest speaker, noted conservation biologist and canid ecologist Chris Schadler.  She will share fascinating information on the eastern coyote and its place in our changing landscape.  She’ll also discuss the return of the wolf to New England.

Following the meeting, attendees are invited to explore the wonderful Gilmanton properties now permanently protected by Five Rivers conservation easements.  One property, with a scenic beaver pond and abundant bird life, is just next door to the meeting hall.  Bring your walking shoes and binoculars, and treat yourself to some great birding.  Tours of other conserved Gilmanton properties will also be available.

Directions to Gilmanton Academy, Gilmanton Corners, NH
The town office and meeting hall for Gilmanton is situated in the Gilmanton Academy building. Located in Gilmanton Corners, the building is in a picturesque village setting at the intersection of Routes 140 and 107. 

From Concord, there are two main ways to drive to Gilmanton Corners:

  • One way from Concord is to take I-393 east to Route 106.  Travel north on Route 106 to Belmont, and take Route 140 east to its intersection with Route 107.
  • Another way is to take I-93 north to Exit 20, briefly follow Route 11/3 east, turn right onto Route 140, and follow Route 140 through Belmont to the intersection of Route 107.

Sweatt Preserve Nature Trail Opening - Hopkinton, Saturday, October 20, 2007
Come join Five Rivers Conservation Trust members, friends, and others at the grand opening of Five Rivers’ Sweatt Preserve Nature Trail in Hopkinton on Saturday, October 20 at 10 am. A ribbon-cutting dedication ceremony will be held at the trailhead of this newly-created pathway, located on an attractive 73-acre forest and stream property along Old Stagecoach Road. For more info on this self-guided trail and its fall opening, call 603-225-7225. Refreshments will be served. All are welcome!
